Xreal shipped 350,000 augmented reality (AR) glasses in 2023 and held 51% of the market in Q3, the company said.

The new market share numbers show Xreal‘s momentum just ahead of the CES 2024 tech trade show in Las Vegas next week.

The latest news shows Xreal’s position in the AR device market, affirming its role as a premier wearable display brand — just as Apple is about to wade into the high end of the market with its Apple Vision Pro XR headset.

International Data Corporation (IDC) reported that Xreal grabbed a 51% market share in the global AR segment during Q3 2023. This milestone crowns Xreal as the industry’s revenue and shipment leader. It’s a small market still, but it’s growing fast.

IDC’s data revealed that Xreal contributed to 58% of the year-over-year increased shipments in 2023 within the consumer AR market. With a shipment record of 350,000 AR glasses to date, XREAL’s Air series AR glasses are Amazon’s best-selling products in the smart glasses category.

Chi Xu, the founder and CEO at Xreal, was excited about the market share numbers.

Xreal has impressive market share numbers, IDC says.

“Today we celebrate a major milestone on our journey to bring AR wearable displays to everyone around the world, revolutionizing how people experience everything from video games to movies and TV, in-car entertainment and displays, and how they work at their desks or on the go,” said Xu, in a statement. “Having secured a major foothold in the global wearable display market, Xreal is now in a stronger position to embrace market momentum and reaffirm its position as the leading, best-selling AR glasses and spatial computing brand in the world today, who’s trajectory is outpacing the rest of the industry combined.”

According to IDC, the worldwide AR market is forecasted to grow at a compound annual growth rate (2022 actual to 2027 estimate) of 89%, and Xreal has achieved a compound annual growth rate (from the first nine months of 2021 to the first nine months of 2023) of 320% historically.

The company’s AR glasses are positioned as a lighter, more comfortable, and cost-effective alternative to competitors like Apple’s Vision Pro and Meta’s Quest 3, integrating cutting-edge optics and environment sensing technology.

The Xreal Air 2 and Air 2 Pro use Micro-OLED displays from Sony and were launched in October 2023. They feature enhanced brightness, color reproduction, pixel density, and an ultra-high contrast ratio.

Xreal Air 2 AR glasses debuted in October 2023.

These glasses also have an improved audio system, microphone, and the Xreal Electrochromic Dimming feature in the Air 2 Pro variant.

The glasses are compatible with major gaming and streaming devices. Xreal has expanded its global resence, available in the US, Europe, and Asia, with plans for further distribution in 2024.

At CES 2024 in Las Vegas, XREAL will unveil its next-gen spatial computing hardware and SDK for developers, promising groundbreaking capabilities akin to Apple’s Vision Pro and Meta’s Quest 3. This announcement will accompany Xreal’s product catalog sale at Xreal.com during CES 2024.
