Beeper Relaunches Its iMessage on Android App, but Requires Apple ID


Beeper Mini has returned to operation on Monday as a free iMessage-texting app on Android, but with a number of tweaks following the service’s disconnection from Apple’s messaging service late last week.

In addition to now being free, Beeper announced in its blog post that the service now requires an Apple ID to function and phone number registration has not yet returned. While Beeper outlined in its launch blog posts that the service does not hold onto Apple ID credentials, this does for now set Beeper back to a similar drawback that other third-party iMessage services experience by needing that information which may be connected to other services and subscriptions. 

Texts also for now can only be sent from an Apple ID’s email address, instead of from your phone number. This is similar to using iMessage from only a Mac or an iPad: An iPhone-using contact may want to save your Apple ID email address in order to display texts in the same manner as those that came from your phone number.
