Millions in the U.S. Wake Up to Freezing Temperatures

موقع شبرون للتقنية والأخبار- متابعات تقنية:

Communities throughout the East Coast woke up to a cold blast of air, as temperatures dropped below freezing overnight. Even people in the overheated South needed to break out their warm-weather apparel today.

For some areas, this is the first real freeze of the season, according to the National Weather Service. “Record cold is possible for several locations from Louisiana to Maine in the form of daily record low temperatures. Readings into 20s and 30s are likely to be widespread,” an NWS alert said.

Some areas may have even seen even colder temps that those before sunrise, the alert said. So if you woke up along the East Coast and thought, “damn, it’s cold,” you weren’t wrong.

Some cities have broken cold weather records, as forecast by the NWS. The Baltimore-Washington area woke up to temperatures ranging from the mid 20s (-3.8 degrees Celsius) to the mid 30s (1.6 degrees Celsius). “A record low has been set at Martinsburg today (Nov 2). Low of 25F, previous record for the day was 26F last set in 2019,” the Baltimore-Washington NWS station tweeted this morning.

Further south, residents in Atlanta were also shivering. “Lows areawide in the 20s to mid-30s are 15-20 degrees below climatological normals for early November,” the city’s NWS station tweeted.

The cold temperatures will not stick around too long, though. “Fortunately, for those who dislike the cold, conditions should gradually warm with temperatures reaching closer to average for this time of year by Saturday,” the NWS alert said.

Today’s cold comes just days after cities throughout the Northeast saw especially hot temperatures for the end of October. New York City saw a new record of about 82 degrees Fahreinheit (27 degrees Celsius) this past Saturday. New Yorkers are seeing about half that on their thermometers today.
